This is Mauii, our oldest child, an 8 year old “semi-miniature” longhair dachshund. She is modeling the new woven rug I purchased on Wednesday at Home Goods for the front door. I think she’s ready for America’s Next Top Model, don’t you?

eBay wins!
This is my first Eames/Herman miller purchase. EVER. I am so happy! It’s a beautiful orange stack-able base fiberglass chair. I got it off eBay. I’m a pro at eBay having ran a store and been a member since I was like 16, but this is one of the most exciting purchases yet! I’m hoping to purchase at least 4 of them to place around my the soon-to-be breakfast nook table. I’m actually ok with different colored chairs. I’m not set on all orange, thought that would be nice.
I plan on refurbishing the chair soon. ChairFag has a great tutorial on how to properly restore these fiberglass chairs. I plan on starting on that soon, ya know, after I get this whole house painted. It’s taking forever!
Bench it

I’ve been stalking George Nelson benches on eBay recently. I really think it would be be perfect fit for a little semi-alcove in the entrance way, where we could pile up all our things as soon as we walk in the door. We could keep purses and wallets on top and shoes underneath.
There are a lot of reproductions out there. I am fond of the ash colored wood pictured. Prices are ranging (for a 5 foot bench) anywhere from $189 – $800. That’s a pretty big gap. I can buy a Herman Miller approved bench, but I won’t be able to afford food for the next month either. So here’s my question: Are the reproduction any good, and if so, which ones are good? I’m sure there are some cheap repros and I would like one for a good price that doesn’t look like it came from Wal-Mart. Any advice?
Sunshine
The before is our front door when we moved in. Really ::yawn:: boring. A door that matches the shutters and that matches everyone else’s front door on the street. It was the first thing I wanted to paint when we moved in. When we moved into our first house, the first thing I did was paint the front door red. This time, I have yellow on my brain. I painted it Bold Yellow by Benjamin Moore. It took 4 coats of yellow and a base coat of primer to get rid of that black. We also replaced the old brass door knob and bolt lock with a new shiny one. Big improvement!
Never been so happy about wallpaper.
The Graham & Brown Frames wallpaper that I ordered arrived yesterday! I can’t wait to start hanging the paper, but I’ve never hung wallpaper before, only taken it off. I’m wondering if I’ll be resorting to Google and youtube for information, or just ask my mother to come up from Columbia and help. Mom, wanna come up and help?
Any tips on hanging wallpaper? Luckily I am only hanging it on one wall with no corners or anything. Should be a little easier, right?

Nook TeePee

I purchased a tiny bistro style aluminum dining table and 2 chairs a while ago for our breakfast nook. Alas it is just too small for the space. It looks all swallowed up by the bay window, so I needed to find a replacement. Hello CB2! The Teepee table is almost perfect for the space and very good for my wallet!
This is the space it will be occupying :: {please excuse the mess + wall color + lighting fixture, we have only lived in the house for 3 weeks+! Still a mess!}
The bistro set is super cute and the chairs are really comfy. I got it for $99 at TJ Maxx in Columbia before we moved into the house. Might have to find a place for it upstairs in the office for some business-like coffee talkin.
Black Out Inspiration
operation paint has begun!
On Friday I stopped by Lowes and picked up a 5 gallon bucket of Valspar by Martha Stewart Zen Garden Sand in satin. It was time to get rid of the girl scout khakis that was haunting the entire house! Jason got almost the whole downstairs done with one coat by the time I got home from work on Saturday. On Sunday we spend the whole day painting the trim, patching holes, painting harder to reach places. We only have one coat of paint on and it looks like we are going to need three coats to make it perfect. We haven’t even made it up the stairs yet!
We did find a cool vintage Pyrex casserole dish hiding above the kitchen cabinets while we were painting. Very cool!
